Hello Friends :D I told you I would write a blog about how to use hashtags so here it is! If you have any comments or would like to add leave a comment or e-mail me at clarinetdm12@gmail.com or rejothom@umail.iu.edu Thanks much!
Since this is probably going to be terribly boring, I'm going to turn this adventure into a fairytale! That sounds exciting right? So if you have not closed out of this blog yet, enjoy :D
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away, a handsome Prince named Twitter was surfing the web on his magic-space-fantastic-computer-like-thing (I didn't want to say laptop-booring!). So Twitter is very lonely, he doesn't have many friends, and the friends he does have live many galaxies over and they only get to see each other at Summer-Space Camp. Twitter has a Facebook, but he doesn't like writing really long statuses to make a point about something. Prince Twitter thinks about what he can do to change this problem. Finally Twitter has an idea. "I'll make my own social-networking site!" he thought. "But instead of having the ability to write incredibly long statuses, they can only be 140 characters long!" Twitter was soo excited he ran around the Palace-Spaceship Thingy telling everyone and anything that listen. The people didn't seem quite as excited, but the walls would not shut up about it!Twitter created his website, making sure it had the coolest graphics and tools, things that are way cooler than anything on Facebook (I don't know if Twitter and Facebook have beef with eachother, if they do no, then I am extremely sorry. But if they do...I'm on Facebook's side!). When it came time to name the website, Twitter thought long and hard about a name. It had to be cool and it had to be short. "Hmmmm...how about 'Awesome'? No- 'Non-Facebook'. No. Hmmmm....I know! Twitter!" and so the website was named Twitter.
**************************A Few Years Later-Same Galaxy***************************
Twitter is very rich and has lots of friends. All of his friends 'tweet' really awesome information, and they all learned how to do it within 140 characters! One day Twitter was hanging out with his BFF Hashtag. They were discussing how there was ton of information on Twitter, but no way to organize it. "What if people put a little sign in front of what they're saying, and that symbol has a specific category you can track it by?" asked Hashtag. Twitter shook his head, "No, it should be only one symbol..and it has to look cool, because I'm cool." Hashtag scratched his head. "How about they put a number symbol in front of a word or phrase like 'number sign puppies are cute'?" Twitter nodded, "You know you just might be on to something Hashtag. Hey! We can call it a hashtag!". They both got really excited and started jumping around like 13 year-old girls!
*************************Epilouge-Moral of this here Story****************************
Hashtags are used today by thousands and thousands of people. They are usually inserted at the end of a tweet. They attach a theme to your tweet and can be searched in the Twitter search engine. Hashtags are used to organize different tweets from anyone and everyone, so if you put a hashtag in your tweet and you search the tag and click on it, it should show your tweet and others that used the same tag. If you ever use one make sure the word after the hashtag doesn't have any spaces and it fits inside to 140 characters limit. They are not case sensitive. It is also important to know that Governments do sometimes monitor the different hashtags. Just a little FYI :D
I hope you learned something from this Wednesday-Day of Knowledge!
