New Year: New ADVENTURE

It's me again Margret! I hope you enjoy reading my blogs as much as I do writing them!

As always you may contact me through e-mail at rejothom@umail.iu.edu or by simply leaving a comment!

I hope everyone has been having a wonderful and safe Summer Vacation! But, it is now that time again where the highly dreaded 'school-time' rears it's ugly head! Hopefully, you are NOT like me and are excited about returning to the daily grind! However for me--this is not the case!

Now, don't get me wrong. I do enjoy having a daily, weekly, nightly whatever schedule, but I just don't want to go back yet! Technically I never left! I actually live in the town where my school is located (for those of you who don't know!).

Just this last Monday, e-mails started pouring in from my new proffesors about many things from supplies to attendance policies, text books, access codes, passwords, print this, print that, sign here, initial here, blood sample here, etc. Yes Ladies and Gents, It is the beginning of the College Year.

I may be complaining, but my bank account is literally bitching at me. Fo real. Because for some reason, text books cost more than my first card (Turd may rest in peace). Some of you may have seen my rant on Facebook earlier this week. I was looking for a cheaper copy of my Music Appreciation text book on Amazon--THIS IS NOT A JOKE-- It was seriously listed for $5,879 and some odd cents. That is seriously more than my tution for this whole school year combined (yeah I go to cheap college, be jealous!)

I am kind of excited about starting a new year or as I like to call it, ADVENTURE! This is one exspensive ADVENTURE! I don't even get a free shirt this year! What the heck is up with that?! It's like once you're not a Freshmen anymore, they just don't care about you. Oh WAIT a MINUTE...I am STILL a FRESHMAN.......... Yeah my school didn't count some credit hours I got from another school (that they made me go to) so I am still considered a Freshmen. Even though it is my third semester as a full time student..... I LOVE MY SCHOOL. #obvisouly
**ON A BRIGHTER NOTE**
Well, Here's to hoping that you love your school and you don't think it sucks! And on an even brighter note..
Love ya Guys!

Daewoo Nubira 'Turd' 2002-2013 "The Good Die Young"

I have the sad duty of writing you and telling you that my beloved Turd has been laid to rest. Turd made the long journey back home before finally making it to her resting place in Avon, IN. She was 11 years old, new to me in 2011.

Turd was a good 'ol car, but she's in a better place now. Turd will always have a special place in my heart.

I will try to stay up to date with my blog (because I did such an incredible job last year!). Like I said above, I will have two jobs this year! Fun Fun! Wish me luck!

#PrayForTurd

Long time no see! (Err is it; Long time no read?) I am writing this post a little late. Hey, I have only been on summer break for about two months! But, I haven't written for like five months! Probably because proffessors can cause an overkill on writing papers.

Typical Lecture: (View a five-minute YouTube video over 'Discipline in the Classroom')
Prof.: Tomorrow, you will turn in a 4 paged, single spaced essay over the video you just viewed. Use your notes to describe the incorrect and correct techniques the teacher demonstrated and include the way you would have handled the situation. Then include your own created situation that must include a monkey; student's desk; irate parents; the Death Star and Satan. Also be sure that you set your margins to 0.5 inches and you use 11pt. Times New Roman font. All essays must be signed with the blood of a virgin--If not, I will deduct 2,000 points from Gryffindor.

You try finding a virgin on a college campus in 24 hours! Oh well, I still made the Dean's List!

This past year has defiently been an adventure! I never thought I would actually be moved out and slightly on my own at age 18. Sure my parents still help me financially, as well as my sister and other people, but for the most part I think I do pretty well. I have a swell job that is giving me tonsss of experience in my field, which is a huge plus!

I remember everyone telling me my Senior year of high school how much I was going to love college! I would make friends and memories that would last a lifetime! I would party like a child-star has-been! I soon found out that those people were slightly wrong.

****WARNING--THIS NEXT PARAGRAPH IS PURE OPINION---ACTUALLY THIS WHOLE BLOG IS----SO----DISREGARD THAT WARNING-----BUT DO TAKE NOTE*****

Yes, I made friends this year--and yes, we are most likely going to remain friends. I have made memories! They were not necessarily about college, at college or having anything to do with college--they simply take place during my college years.
No, I do not party like a child-star has-been. If that means eating ice cream for dinner, or using Twix bars as chopsticks while eating a cupcake for breakfast? Then yes--I party pretty hard.
I don't feel like I can make a decision about really loving college. On one hand, I love the freedom of being able to do almost anything I want, when I want! On the other hand,
"With great power, comes great responsibility"
-Uncle Ben
Which basically sums up why I do not have a pet rat yet! It is also pretty hard to do whatever you want, when your car begins to die a slow and painful death...#prayforturd

College can be a very confusing part of your life. Between figuring out how to deal with financial aid, buying books, buying groceries, changing lightbulbs, changing the roll of toilet paper, doing your own laundry, cleaning your room, making money, losing money, making friends, talking in public in front of a bunch of strangers, making a total and complete ass of yourself in front of everybody...etc. etc.! But, it doesn't all suck.

On the bright side you can watch all the horror, gory, scary movies you want, and be able to sleep by yourself at night. Wants the magical antedote?
Answer: Look at your bank account everyday

If you are concerned with the dreaded 'Freshmen 15', don't kill yourself over it. It's not like college kids actually care what they look like! I swear if I didn't have the job that I do, my closet would consist of hoodies, sweatpants, t-shirts and flip-flops. If you want to impress your classmates, just dress up like you have an interview. Or shave your head, so you no longer have to shower in the morning (which adds time to your morning routine...if you have one).

FINAL WORDS OF ADVICE:

Sleep is a need--not a want

Coffee is liquid crack, when made correctly

Red Bull is liquid speed---use sparingly

And finally,
GET A JOB!!

In case you were wondering why this blog is titled, "#PrayForTurd", it is because my turd broke down last Friday. Turns out it has been leaking antifreeze. My injectors are also constantly injecting fuel into the engine due to a broken computer. So please Pray for Turd!

My First Concert and the Turrible Public Speaking Event

It's me again Margret! Another exciting day in the life of Rebekah! As always remember to contact me at clarinetdm12@gmail.com, Tweet, Like/post whatever! Like it up!!

Last Wednesday was my very first Concert Band concert. The communirt band was performing with all of the surrounding schools, so we had Fifth Grade recorders all the way up to people who are either in college or have graduated from college a while ago. With a HUGE performing group comes an even HUGER crowd! There were a BUTT-TON of people attending this performance. Usually, concerts are not this big, the reason why this one was sooo SPECTACULAR was because it was showcasing the band program(s) in our county. We basically wanted to advertise how awesome peoples' kids could be if they joined band in sixth grade.

Now being the Freshmen that I am; I was EXTREMELY nervous. This was my very first COLLEGE concert band performance!! There are a lot of differences between playing in a college ensemble versus playing in a high school ensemble. For instance--A lot of the people that are in my section, have been playing since before I was born. We'll call that time period, B.R (Before Rebekah).

Every ensemble has a specific uniform. I have become accustomed to white on top and black on bottom or the fashionable all black. This ensemble uniform consists of a red shirt, black pants and black shoes. WHOA!! I was not prepared for this!! Being the girl that I am, I HAD to run out and buy a NEW(used) shirt! Well, while I was in Goodwill I recieved a text from my band director asking if I would like to stand up during the concert and talk about why I enjoyed band during high school and how it helped me find my career...I recieved this text like three hours before hand...Now a normal person would have sat down and wrote a nice little speech about how band was inspirational, beautiful and fun. Yeah...I was not a normal person..for once. I thought it would just come to me and it would be awesome. So in other words, I was going to wing it.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER WING IT

Band is very important to me! Everyone that was in band with me can tell you, we were family, I loved them all like they were my children! Most of them were! That's why it surprised me that when the time came--NOTHING wanted to come out!! I was very flustered and embarrassed, mainly because I had NO IDEA who the heck half of the people were that I was addressing. Which I don't really know why that bothered me! Usually if I don't know the people I'm talking to I get a serious case of Word Diarrhea!

So, because I did a terrible job, I am taking this opportunity to redo my speech!

In high school, I was a true 'band-geek'. I was section leader, drum major and a single mother of five kids. To me, band is like Kentucky--We're all family! I know my band family helped me get through lots of heartbreaks and aches, failed tests and other scandalous things.

If it weren't for band, I honestly do not believe that I would have gone to college. I knew that I wanted to teach, but I had no idea what exactly that it was that I wanted to teach. After being in high school for a couple of years, I was sure that music would be the best place for me. I love the feeling you get after a great performance and that feeling of belonging in a group of people that don't care if you're weird! Even though I get the wonderful opportunity to play with some very experienced, learned musicians--I would give anything to make music with MY band. I hope that you give your child the chance to experience the feeling I felt performing with MY band and I hope that some day, they can stand where I am now and share how they feel about THEIR band.

Alex Shelton- We attended high school together and Alex was my Drum Major in the marching band for three years! I joined as Drum Major with her for one year! She's a lot of fun to hang out with and she helped me through quite a few problems. We seriously need to hang out! I hope you're having fun at college!!

Sara Nodley- We worked together at Asbury Towers! Oh my goodness the stories I could tell! I still hate serving soup!!! I bet you do too! I haven't really heard from you or Kaylie lately about how things are going at Asbury, but I hope they're just dandy! I need to go back soon and eat dinner with everyone!

Shelli Harper- Man, do we go back? I first met you in Girl Scouts in like fifth grade! I remember you didn't want to work with someone during the meeting because they were a 'Bainbridge' girl! (I hope you don't hate me for putting that!!) Now we've graduated together and you're pregnant with a baby boy and engaged! Time sure does fly by! Hope you are very happy with you're family and congrats on the new addition!!

First Semester of College ;D

Hey! Guess what?? I'm baaacckkk :D If you would like to contact me my e-mail is rejothom@umail.iu.edu or clarinetdm12@gmail.com !

Oh my gosh guys! My very first semester of college is coming to a close!!! It has been a very interesting transformation from high school to college. First, I'm not going to lie, I did not like college. For one, I only had like one class a day, so I would have like long periods of time where I didn't have anything to do! Two, I had no friends! I am NOT use to this!! In high school I was surrounded by friends and I love them all! Now I have made a few new ones and I HOPE they stick around. Three, I had no job for the first few months of school! I really missed working, and now I have a part time job that is AWESOME!

So now that it is almost over, I have a few bullet points of advice!

  • Order your books early- You'll always have that one professor who assigns a reading assignment on the very first day!
  • DO NOT BE SHY- Yes I am advising you to talk to strangers! If you feel like the person might rape you- don't talk to them!
  • Get on a REGULAR Schedule! Have a set time you wake up everyday- nothing sucks more than getting your days and nights messed up!
  • STUDY! Professors do NOT hold your hand in college-even when you're a freshmen!
  • Stay close to your High School friends- if they're you're true friends they will be there for you NO Matter what! Mine are!

For those of you who have not graduated from high school yet; have no fear! Living on your own and attending college isn't as nearly scary as you think! If you are truly scared; keep reading my blog! I will always post more advice after a semester! Have no fear, Bekah is here!!

I hope you have enjoyed my blog, and I hope you continue reading!

Thanks!!
